Corby now has a population of around 55,000, but was a small village until the opening of a large steelworks in the 1930's. This closed in the 1970's since when new industries have moved to the town. Most of the building in the town centre dates back to the 60's.

There are still plenty of green areas in Corby. The boating lake near the town centre is easily accessible for a pleasant stroll and is a popular haunt of local fishermen.
